As You Wake Cry Unity (2025)
As You Wake Cry Unity: A Story of the Grenadian Revolution
The Grenada revolution was a unique and dramatic episode in recent Caribbean history played out against the backdrop of the Cold War, and culminating in the murder of the Prime Minister and colleagues by a rival faction, precipitating a US military invasion.
This graphic novel tells the story of the revolution from the viewpoint of its two main characters and lifelong friends--Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and Deputy Prime Minister Bernard Coard. The narrative draws on real dialogue, and the colorful artwork vividly brings to life the events and experiences of those tumultuous years.
This book provides an imaginative alternative to existing academic accounts and will help to acquaint new and in particular younger readers with the story of the revolution and inspire further reading.
